Summer@Link | MontescagliosoThe summer courses of the Link Campus University will take place, at Montescaglioso, inside the Benedictine Abbey “San Michele Arcangelo”.This monument is located in the old part of town: the first historical information dates back to the eleventh century. It reaches the maximum glory from the sixteenth century until 1784, when the monks abandoned to move to the town of Lecce.The building has 365 rooms on three floors: the underground with deposits and cellars, the ground floor with rooms and refectory and the first floor with cells, the abbot’s room, the guesthouse, the infirmary and the library. Equipped with two cloisters and many frescoes, the monument is also the main office of the Civitas  Severiana Foundation, after the ancient Roman name of the townA peasant exhibition on the daily life of the inhabitants of the area can also be visited. The territory of Montecaglioso is part of an archaeological and historical area and is well connected to other important centres: the network has created the “Parco Archeologico delle Chiese Rupestri (rupestri means rocky) del Materano” (Murgia Park of Materano) which covers an area of 8000 hectares. Besides the cultural heritage, the surroundings of Montescaglioso include natural protected oasis and parks, and beaches awarded the blue flag of Europe, which certify the good quality of sea water and services.
